ISLAMABD: With the exit of national football team from the South Asian Games in Nepal, the total strength of the Pakistan contingent has now been reduced to 326 and out of which 305 will be financially supported by the government.Pakistan and India have both been axed from the South Asian football event as both the federations submitted their accreditation papers after the due date.“Now the Pakistan contingent’s strength has been reduced to 326. The teams have already started departing for Nepal in different groups and hopefully a good part of the contingent would be at the Games venue by the time the opening ceremony starts on December 1,” Mohammad Khalid Mehmood, secretary Pakistan Olympic Association, when contacted said.A 54-member Pakistan contingent including tennis, table tennis, badminton and taekwondo players has left for Nepal to participate in the Games on Friday.In yet another development, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has refused accreditation to Dr Abdul Qadoos Jamali and Rana Nasarullah for the positions already filled by other aspirants.In a letter written to Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the POA has expressed its inability to grant accreditation to both Nasarullah and Jamali.The POA has also confirmed that accreditation of chef de mission Akbar Durrani and treasurer Fayyazul Haq has been approved by the organising committee.“The POA now has finalised all the formalities regarding the Pakistan contingent’s participation and those who have sent their accreditation well in time have received and would receive their accreditations. The POA reserves the rights to approve or reject any other accreditation as has been the case,” he said.
